“What’s the big deal about resveratrol, you ask? Well, it all has to do with what I call the French Connection–otherwise called the “French Paradox”. Many people by now know that this refers to the French who eat plenty of high fat, high cholesterol foods and who love their rich desserts–and yet, they very low incidence of heart disease or overweight conditions while also enjoying longer-than-average longevity.

It turns out that the French secret is red wine. They also consume a few glasses of this on a regular–indeed, daily–basis. The red wine cleans out their arteries, helps them metabolize fats, and slows the aging process. Why? It’s due, in large part, to a chemical in red wine called resveratrol.Resveratrol is richly found in the skins of red and purple grapes. It is also abundant in cranberries, blueberries, mulberries, and legumes. The popular dietary supplement grape seed extract contains high levels of resveratrol as well.”
